Specialized Moving Services has been a family business since 1988. Owned and run by James & Peter Ray, we've spent 38 years doing one kind of work: protecting items that can't be replaced — building custom crates, handling what shouldn't be left to general movers, and moving the pieces other companies exclude.
The math of this trade is simple. A crate is cheap insurance on an item worth a hundred times more. A trained technician costs a little more per hour than a day laborer and causes a lot less than one damaged heirloom per career. We've kept the same phone number, the same standards, and the same family name on the work since 1988 — that's the whole pitch.
The people
Everyone who touches your items is a trained SMS technician — not temporary labor hired for the day. Our crews build crates, crate fine art, move pianos, and mount TVs week in and week out, and the experience shows in the judgment calls: which wall of the crate takes the load, which stair needs protection, which item needs a crate instead of a box. Crews show up insured, in a company truck, on time.

Who we work for
Half our work comes from homeowners with one item that matters. The other half ships under other companies' names: van lines, movers, freight forwarders, and contractors who subcontract their crating and specialty services to us. Both halves get the same crews and the same standard.
